![]() And yes FF14 does take the game down every once and awhile outside of major/minor patches. So Blizz is NOT the only major MMO maker who does so. ![]() But things which can't be seen tend to bite the hardest.Īlso FF14 tends to have big maint windows for their patches, both minor and major. I want it to come up sooner, with no problems. They might be thinking that do to history repeating itself time and again that it is better to do a bigger window and then bring it online sooner if no problems, that can be seen, arise. But they do have a history of such blunders that cause bigger problems. I am not tolerating or defending it (simply stating facts as has been seen). Do any other MMOs have lengthy down times as frequently as WoW? I'm not aware of any, but then again I don't play them all. I guess the real answer is that enough players tolerate it or even defend it (see above, lol). It is simply a matter of better safe than sorry. It has happened in the past for minor patches and can, and most likely will, happen again. This occurs because your game client does not match the version on our servers. You may see incompatible realms after logging in to World of Warcraft after a patch. There have been times where one minor thing caused such huge problems once servers went back up they had to shut them down again just to fix them. Product: Common Problems All realms appear red and say Incompatible when logging in to World of Warcraft. Just be cause you have done LOTS of testing before hand doesn't mean there will not be problems when it goes onto the main servers. Testing it on a test server and testing it on live servers are not always the same. 0.5 patch on anything? Unless you've not tested your %^&*? I'm for sure no genius but why does it still take 8 hrs to load up a. 0.5 patch on anything? Unless you've not tested your %^&*? Comment by Lostartes on T20:43:26-06:00 In most likelihood after testing internally, you've already put the data on the production servers, and come patch time you comment out to load the new code and reboot. ![]() You've supposedly tested this patch in the test environment. I'm not 100% ignorant, used to work in some server deployment in a previous life (not on the scale of Blizz), but I never understood these long periods of "patch". Looks like I'll be playing Pokemon on my day off till servers come back. Wonder how many of the old bugs since the DF pre-patch will still be around and how many more will be added with this one… Comment by Deirhese on T20:12:23-06:00 That's rough, but better to overestimate it than to underestimate it and have to tack on more time.
